Bible Verses for a Broken Heart: Comfort for Heartbreak
A broken heart does not always come from one big, obvious thing. Sometimes it is a slow crack from a love that faded, a betrayal you did not see coming, or a goodbye you never got to say properly. However yours came, I am not going to rush you through it here.
We tend to believe we should be over things faster than we are. That there is some deadline on grief, and we are already past it. There is not. Your heart is not broken because your faith is weak. It is broken because you loved something, and that is a deeply human and holy thing to do.
God Is Nearest to the Brokenhearted
This is the part that still undoes me: Scripture says God does not pull back from our pain, He leans in. Psalm 34:18 says He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. Not the ones holding it together. The crushed ones. Psalm 147:3 promises He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, slowly, the way a good doctor does.
When you feel like you are falling apart, Psalm 73:26 is honest: my flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart. And Matthew 11:28 is the quiet invitation for exactly this kind of tired: come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest.
When Will It Stop Hurting?
Psalm 30:5 does not promise the night will be short. It promises the morning will come. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning. You do not have to force the morning. You just have to let yourself be held through the night.
If you are ready for a gentle, guided way to actually tend the wound instead of just white-knuckling through it, my Emotional Healing workbook walks with you, Scripture by Scripture, at your own pace.
A Short Prayer for a Broken Heart
Lord, I do not have the words for how much this hurts. So I am just bringing You the ache itself. Be as close as You promised to the brokenhearted. Hold the pieces I cannot. And when I cannot imagine morning, be my strength through the night. Amen.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Bible verse helps with a broken heart?
Psalm 34:18 is one of the most comforting: God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. Psalm 147:3 adds that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Does God care about my heartbreak?
Yes. Scripture repeatedly shows God leaning toward our pain, not away from it. He is described as near to the brokenhearted and as a healer of wounds, including the invisible ones.
How do I heal a broken heart biblically?
Begin by letting the grief be real instead of rushing it. Bring the ache honestly to God, lean on comforting Scripture like Psalm 30:5, and give yourself permission to heal slowly, as a process rather than a single moment.
