Why feeling disconnected perpetuates loneliness
If you’re in your own season of loneliness, like me, you know how easy it is to shut down and check out of our relationships:
- With God
- Our own self
- And His people
So, it’s no surprise that our isolation begets the pervasive sense of loneliness we feel creeping into the deepest parts of our hearts.

When God feels far and we feel twisty, or our people are oblivious to our pains, how do we find the everlasting comfort we know He provides, but are struggling to feel when we’re showing up in loneliness, day in and day out?
We turn back to scripture and tether our pains there.
Sister, there is no faster way to ease our loneliness than when we take the pains of this world and hold them up to the truths we find in His Word!
His truths are sure to remind us that:
When our loneliness stirs up all.the.doubts, we can find comfort and freedom in knowing that, in light of Heaven, we are never alone!
How the presence of God helps us feel less alone
If the Word grounds us to the truths that our loneliness does not separate us from the love of God, nor the purposes He’s tucked deep within our hearts, then the very presence of God in our lives is good to:
- Combat our doubts
- Give us an eternal perspective
- Tether us from wandering

Our battles with loneliness are an extension of brokenness—from the world and our own sin.
But in the presence of God, our doubts are held in the right perspective, an eternal one rooted in security and communion with the Almighty!
We are never alone under the everlasting presence of the Father.
When no one cares, God does
The hardest part about feeling alone is allowing the pervasiveness of our feelings to become invasive fallacies of our reality.
What I mean is, we take our feelings and allow them to falsely color all truths around us.
We might allow ourselves permission to sit in the grief of our season of loneliness, but it’s also a fine line between sitting in our hurt and allowing it to reign supreme over all parts of our lives.
Friend, despite our hurts, there is a true hope for comfort that we can cling to.
But it won’t come from us, it’s only found in Him.
Let’s be reminded of His nearness to our loneliness by breathing in the scriptures below.

A Prayer for those battling loneliness
Father, would you help us to feel the pains of our loneliness while protecting us from being swallowed whole by it.
Would you guide us to healing and wholeness as we navigate the realities of our brokenness, both of the world, and our own hearts.
Tether us to your presence, bringing to mind your Word and its truths you’ve tucked deep inside our wandering hearts.
Secure our steps from wandering, restoring us to wholeness, and draw us near to a comfort that we can only find in you.
Amen.
